 About Ruth Buffam

If you are looking for positive ways to deal with behaviour challenges while helping kids develop life skills and capabilities, you’ve come to the right place.

I am a Certified Positive Discipline Educator and Trainer and have spent many years as a Classroom & Special Education Teacher.  I also have more than a few years of parenting experience raising three wonderful sons.  I’m sure they’d agree when I say there were lots of challenges along the way!  I only wish I’d have known then, what I know now!

Research shows that punishment and rewards are not only ineffective in the long-term, but are actually harmful to children.  There is such a better way, and that is what this blog site and my website www.positivediscipline.ca
is all about.  I mainly focus on the Positive Discipline Program, but I also tap into other compatible and well researched programs.   I’m doing some
program development of my own as well.

Positive Discipline is a “non-punitive” approach, but it is not permissive either.  In fact it is aimed at empowering kids to take responsibility and ownership.  It also focuses on adults developing strong “connections” with kids and helping adults and kids develop healthy, respectful relationships.

I hope you’ll keep up with my blog posts which will be aimed at helping you understand children’s and teen’s behaviour.  If you’re like me, you’ll learn a lot about your own behaviour along the way, too.

Keeping you posted,

Ruth
